Cullinan all praise for ‘disciplined’ Bumrah, Siraj and Shami

Virat Kohli was full of praise for Mohammed Shami, calling him one of “the best three seamers in the world” after India beat South Africa by 113 runs in the first Test in Centurion.Shami’s five-for was instrumental in India bowling out South Africa for 197 in the first innings, especially when they didn’t have the services of Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah was off the field for close to two hours after twisting his ankle. Then he had to spend the same amount of time on the field before he was allowed to bowl again. In the second dig too Shami chipped in with 3 for 63, which included Aiden Markram’s wicket in the second over of the innings.”Very, very happy for him to get 200 wickets and have an impactful performance,” Kohli said of Shami at the post-match presentation. “He is absolutely world-class talent. For me, he’s in the best three seamers in the world at the moment. His strong wrist, his seam position and his ability to hit a length consistently…”Talking about the overall pace attack, Kohli said: “Just the way these guys bowl together, it’s just a hallmark of our team getting a result from that position, not just in this game but also in the last two-three years.”India get together after Mohammed Shami snags Wiaan Mulder•AFP/Getty Images

In a rain-affected Test, India’s performance with the bat on the first day proved to be decisive in the end. Kohli credit his openers for that.”The discipline that the batters showed… Winning the toss, batting first overseas is a tough challenge,” he said. “Credit to Mayank and KL for the way they set it up.”We knew we were in pole position with anything over 300-320. We have a lot of belief in our bowling unit and knew the bowlers will get the job done.”This is India’s first Test win in Centurion. Now, they will be eyeing their first Test series win in South Africa. The next match will be played in Johannesburg, where India had won on their last tour.”It’s a top start for us, Kohli said. “We have to understand one day was washed out. That shows how well we played. It’s always a difficult place to play against South Africa. We got so much confidence out of Johannesburg last time. It’s a ground we love playing at.”

Xavier Bartlett and Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowl Brisbane Heat to comeback victory

Heat had been 6 for 77 before James Bazley lifted them to a defendable total

AAP and ESPNcricinfo staff 01-Jan-2022Xavier Bartlett bounced back from final-over heartache to help Brisbane Heat to a confidence-boosting 14-run win over the Hobart Hurricanes.Bartlett took a career-best 4 for 30 after the Heat earlier posted 8 for 150 on the back of some late lusty hitting from allrounder James Bazley who top-scored in tricky Bellerive Oval conditions with an unbeaten 44 from 27 deliveries at No. 8.Bartlett struck two big blows early in the chase, getting rid of in-form opener Ben McDermott after his back-to-back hundreds and skipper Matthew Wade in the second over.He returned for the power surge in the 14th over to remove Tim David and D’Arcy Short, who departed off a top edge for a sluggish 27 from 38 balls. Bartlett had bowled the final over in Heat’s two-wicket loss to the Sydney Sixers on Wednesday, conceding a single off the last delivery in a game they should have won.Mujeeb Ur Rahman was outstanding in the middle overs, picking up Harry Brook and Peter Handscomb to finish with 3 for 20 at an economy rate of five runs per over. Hurricanes’ middle order struggled to pick his variations with Jordan Thompson bowled by a carrom ball from around the wicket.Lower-order batter Tom Rogers gave Hurricanes a glimmer of hope in the final few overs but his side finished short. It was an impressive win by Heat who were in a spot of bother at 2 for 16 at the end of the powerplay after being sent in and later 6 for 77.Heat skipper Jimmy Peirson, who has struggled for runs this tournament, was out for 5 in the second over when he edged Meredith to Wade.Bazley shared a crucial 42-run stand with Jack Wildermuth, who hit 28 from 21 deliveries after being brought in as an X-factor player, and also bowled four overs that went for just 20 runs.Rogers earlier starred with the ball for the Hurricanes with 2 for 15 from four overs, while quick Nathan Ellis took 3 for 41 including the big wicket of Chris Lynn.

Josh Philippe's 56-ball 83* powers Sydney Sixers to fifth win of the season

The wicketkeeper-batsman neutralised the threat of Rashid Khan to help the Sixers chase down 177

The Report by Vishal Dikshit05-Jan-2020A stunning display of strokeplay from wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe and an impressive fightback from the Sydney Sixers bowlers, led by the returning Josh Hazlewood, earned them their fifth win of the season. Chasing 177 against the Adelaide Strikers at the sell-out Coffs Harbour ground with nearly 10,000 spectators, the Sixers openers Philippe and Justin Avendano put on 72 in under nine overs to set the platform. Avendano fell for a 33-ball 47 but the Strikers’ total wasn’t steep enough on a batsman-friendly pitch as Philippe saw them through for a seven-wicket win.Avendano fires the engine, Philippe puts out Rashid KhanThe 22-year-old Philippe had been called an “excitement machine” by Mike Hesson, who secured him at base price for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the IPL auction last month, and he showed exactly why. While Avendano took on the quicks early on, Philippe proved his worth when Rashid Khan bowled the last over of the powerplay. Off his first ball against Khan, Philippe swept the spinner fine for four and two balls later, he picked the quicker delivery and hammered it for six to make it a 12-run over.Josh Hazlewood was in fine form on his BBL comeback•Getty Images

Avendano showed his intent early against the fast bowlers. The first balls he faced from Michael Neser, Billy Stanlake, Harry Conway and Peter Siddle all went for boundaries; including a six against Siddle. It showed Avendano, who joined the squad on Saturday and came in for regular captain Moises Henriques (missing out to attend the birth of his first child), wasn’t going to let the experienced names dominate in only his fourth T20. He pulled and drove fearlessly, struck the ball cleanly, and took the pressure off Philippe before a leading edge ended his innings in the ninth over.Philippe, on 25 then, steered the Sixers’ chase as the Strikers kept Rashid’s last three overs for later. He returned in the 12th over with the Sixers still needing 86 from 54 and Philippe used the crease well to sweep again and seemed to pick the wrong’uns from the hand by going deep in his crease to collect runs, using the tactic to bring up his 36-ball fifty in the 15th over. Rashid accounted for Daniel Hughes in that over but Philippe and James Vince didn’t allow the legspinner any more success and the England batsman smoked him for a six in his last over as Rashid ended with 1 for 34. Philippe scored 23 of those runs while facing only 12 balls from Rashid.Despite the Sixers being mostly in control of the chase, things got tense towards the end when they needed 32 from 18, and Siddle only conceded seven in his third over to bring the equation to 25 from 12. But Philippe rose to the occasion again and virtually ended the chase with the first three balls of the 19th over against Neser. Expecting yorkers, he stayed deep in the crease and drilled the first two full deliveries for fours before dispatching a short ball over midwicket for his fourth six. The Sixers only needed four off the last over, and Tom Curran sealed victory with a straight six off Siddle.Jonathan Wells fought well for the Strikers•Getty Images

Hazlewood puts the brakes on in BBL returnHazlewood last played in the BBL in 2014 and his last ODI appearance was in November 2018 but it didn’t show at all. He stuck to his Test lines and lengths, didn’t use any slower deliveries or yorkers, and stifled the Strikers with his accuracy. The Strikers had raced to 1 for 67 in seven overs, cashing in on the diet of short balls they were being served, before Hazlewood came back for his second spell. A scratchy-looking Alex Carey’s problems were compounded when Hazlewood kept angling the ball away from him from off stump; the pressure mounted and Carey made room to heave but he missed a straight delivery and lost his leg stump, for 29 off 31.Hazlewood’s heat fired up the other quicks as they collectively brought down the run rate from 9.57 to 7.23 by the end of the 13th over, Hazlewood finishing with 1 for 18. At 5 for 120 after 15 overs, the Strikers were lifted by Jonathan Wells’ timing and clever placement which earned him a useful unbeaten 40 off 28 along with the lower-middle order. The Strikers collected 56 from the last five as Neser and Rashid also chipped in with cameos.Sixers’ fielding helps Strikers but not muchIf the Strikers didn’t help themselves by not promoting Rashid up the order as they have recently done, they were at least aided by the Sixers’ fielding errors. Ben Dwarshuis put down two consecutive chances, despite getting his hands to both, at deep backward square leg in the last over, Rashid the beneficiary both times. Earlier too, there were several misfields: once in the powerplay, then in the 14th and 15th overs, and Lloyd Pope and Daniel Hughes also put down catches in the circle. One misfield also led to Matthew Short’s run-out for a diamond duck but the Sixers can’t take credit for that.Currently placed second on the table, the Sixers will have to up their fielding game to stay near the top.

Northamptonshire sign Ollie Sale from Somerset

Fast bowler joins on two-year deal with view to playing all formats

ESPNcricinfo staff16-Sep-2022Northamptonshire have signed fast bowler Ollie Sale from Somerset. Sale, 26, has agreed a two-year contract.Northants announced earlier in the week that they had released seamers Nathan Buck and Brandon Glover, with Sale targeted as a player who can strengthen the squad in all three formats.A tall right-armer, Sale came through the Somerset academy but has struggled with injuries. He required surgery on his back in 2015, making his senior T20 debut the following summer, but was then kept on the sidelines until finishing as the club’s leading wicket-taker in the 2020 Vitality Blast.”Ollie has a very, very high potential.” John Sadler, Northants head coach, said. “He brings real pace and he’s had success in white-ball cricket so far. That’s where his immediate strengths lie but we see him playing all formats for us moving forward too.”He’s at the time of his career now where he felt a move would be good. What he offers feels like a great fit for us right now and he’s someone we’re really excited to get to work with.”Sale missed all of the 2021 season after undergoing double shoulder surgery but returned to fitness this summer, making his List A debut during the Royal London Cup. He has also averaged 17.40 with the red ball in the 2nd XI Championship.”I’m hugely excited to be joining Northamptonshire at what seems to be a really promising time for the club,” Sale said. “When I spoke with John Sadler, he talked me through his vision for the club and the role he sees me fulfilling in the squad and I knew it was a brilliant opportunity for me to join an increasingly strong Northamptonshire team on the rise.”I can’t wait to get going with the boys this winter and hopefully build up to a successful season next year.”Northamptonshire are currently fifth in Division One of the Championship and virtually assured of a place in the top tier next season. As well as the departure of Buck and Glover, the club have let go batters Ben Curran and Charlie Thurston.

Libby double-hundred enables Worcestershire to push for victory at sodden Hove

Visitors declare with 218-run lead before striking late on curtailed day

ECB Reporters Network14-Sep-2022Sussex 220 and 39 for 1 trail Worcestershire 438 for 5 (Libby 215) lead by 179 runsOpener Jake Libby made a career-best 215 as Worcestershire put themselves in position to push for victory over Sussex and keep their promotion hopes alive in the LV= Insurance County Championship. Libby’s maiden double-century came in a total of 438 for 5 before Worcestershire declared with a lead of 218 on day three at the 1st Central County Ground, having banked maximum bonus points.Play didn’t start at Hove until 4.10pm because of rain and 84 overs have been lost in the match so far but Worcestershire quickly made up for lost time, Libby leading the charge as they thrashed 149 in 20 overs against some toothless bowling before the declaration.Sussex were left with ten overs to negotiate, and they lost skipper Tom Haines for 13 in the penultimate over when he played on to Joe Leach. They closed on 39 for 1, still 179 behind.Sussex had taken the new ball when play eventually began after heavy rain but it was soon being dispatched to all parts by Libby and Jack Haynes. Pakistan allrounder Faheem Ashraf came in for some harsh treatment, his three overs costing 30 runs including three successive boundaries by Libby which took him past his previous best score of 184.He added 96 in 22 overs with Haynes, who played on to Brad Currie for 31, but skipper Brett D’Oliveira kept up the momentum when he joined Libby. D’Oliveira offered a difficult chance off a top-edged pull but Ali Orr, running round the boundary, couldn’t quite hold on as he stepped over the rope. Otherwise, the pair scored at more than seven runs an over even though Sussex had seven fielders on the boundary.Libby brought up his 200 with a single off James Coles and offered his first chance on 204, but wicketkeeper Oli Carter spilled a straightforward opportunity moving to his right. Libby was eventually dismissed by Coles shaping to cut, having faced 294 balls, hit 25 fours and a six in a highly impressive innings spanning six hours, 38 minutes spread over three days.It was his team’s second double-hundred of this season following Azhar Ali’s 235 against Leicestershire in May and the highest score by a Worcestershire batter against Sussex, beating Graeme Hick’s 186 at Hove in 1991. The declaration came when Ashraf had D’Oliveira, whose 43 off 38 balls included two sixes, was caught behind for 43.

Anderson to miss two Championship matches with 'low grade calf muscle tear'

The England team management remains cautiously optimistic he will be fit and available for their first Test of the summer, against Ireland

George Dobell07-Jul-2019An MRI scan has revealed that James Anderson, England’s record Test wicket-taker, has “a low grade calf muscle tear,” according to the ECB, and will miss Lancashire’s next two Championship matches against Northants and Sussex while he undergoes a rehabilitation programme. Anderson underwent the scan on Friday after he was forced off the field during Lancashire’s County Championship match against Durham on July 2 after experiencing tightness in his right calf. With the recovery time for such injuries typically somewhere between 10 days and a month, depending on their severity, the England team management remains cautiously optimistic he will be fit and available for their first Test of the summer, against Ireland, which starts on July 24 at Lord’s. The first Ashes Test starts at Edgbaston on August 1.While there might have been a case for using the Ireland Test – a
four-day match – to take a look at less experienced bowlers ahead of the Ashes, it seems England’s World Cup run has presented a few complications for the selectors. The likes of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes have all undergone fitness tests ahead of recent games and are carrying an array of aches and pains into matches. All three are likely to be rested ahead of the Ashes, with some suggestion that Archer will not be risked until the second Ashes Test at Lord’s.Anderson has been in outstanding form for Lancashire this season. He has played six Championship matches and claimed 30 wickets at an average of just 9.36. While there might have been an argument for resting him from more games, experience has shown that Anderson – who will be 37 at the end of the month – tends to benefit from ticking over rather than a complete break from bowling.

Beaumont signs with Renegades, Adams heads to Strikers in WBBL

Renegades complete their aim of strengthen the top order while Adams links back up with coach Luke Williams

ESPNcricinfo staff19-Sep-2023The English influx to the WBBL continues with Tammy Beaumont signing with Melbourne Renegades while Adelaide Strikers have signed Southern Brave off-spinning allrounder Georgia Adams for the upcoming season despite her having not played international cricket.Beaumont’s signing is not a surprise after the England opener had opted out of the WBBL overseas draft and instead had committed to the tournament via a new direct signing rule. Overseas players were given the option of bypassing the draft and signing directly with a club, but could only do so at a restricted salary of AU$61,750, despite the platinum and gold picks in the draft earning AU$110,000 and AU$90,000 respectively.Beaumont joined England team-mates Amy Jones (Perth Scorchers) and Sophia Dunkley (Melbourne Stars), as well as South Africa pair Mignon du Preez (Brisbane Heat) and Lizelle Lee (Hobart Hurricanes), and New Zealander Suzie Bates in taking the direct nomination route. Bates is expected to return to Sydney Sixers but it has yet to be confirmed.Related

So batting depth is what we’re looking to develop.”Georgia Adams dented Superchargers with three wickets•ECB/Getty Images

Meanwhile, Strikers have made a bold move in recruiting Adams, who will also play for New South Wales this season, despite the fact she has not played international cricket. Strikers only took two players at the draft, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt and emerging England allrounder Danielle Gibson. They did not retain title-winning West Indies allrounder Deandra Dottin mainly due to salary cap constraints.Instead, they have opted to sign Adams post the draft which is allowed under WBBL rules after the 29-year-old had nominated but was not selected by any team. Adams reunites with Strikers coach Luke Williams after the pair worked together to help Southern Brave win the Women’s Hundred this year, with Williams working as an assistant coach under Charlotte Edwards.Adams was a key contributor for Brave in their title with both bat and ball. She was the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps and an economy rate of just 6.83. She also made a match-winning 50 not out from 32 balls against Oval Invincibles late in the season and contributed a vital 27 in the low-scoring final.”Georgia is someone that consistently performs in domestic cricket in the UK and is able to perform in a number of different roles with bat, ball and in the field,” Williams said.”Her adaptability and ability to perform under pressure is something that stood out and fitted what we were looking for.”Georgia is a great team person who has some experience in leadership positions as well, so I have no doubt that Georgia will fit in fantastically with the Strikers group and I’m really looking forward to her contribution.”

Twin tons for du Plooy, Madsen strengthen Derbyshire grip

Record fourth-wicket stand of 267 leaves Worcestershire well off pace

ECB Reporters Network26-Jun-2023Wayne Madsen and captain Leus du Plooy rewrote the record books as Derbyshire moved into a position of considerable strength on day two of the LV=Insurance County Champoionship encounter with Worcestershire at New Road. The duo scored centuries and broke a 31-year-old landmark in establishing a new Derbyshire record of 267 from 70 overs for the fourth wicket against the home side. They went past the previous best partnership of 218 by Peter Bowler and Chris Adams at Derby in 1992.Madsen has always enjoyed batting against Worcestershire and in 24 innings has struck four centuries and nine other fifty plus scores.Their efforts have given bottom-placed Derbyshire a realistic chance of completing a first win in 10 Championship matches since they triumphed in the corresponding fixture last season. They will begin day three with a lead of 137 and five wickets in hand and du Plooy unbeaten on 159. But they were aided by an uninspired performance by the home side who dropped both of the batters before they reached three figures.Du Plooy was put down on 69 off Indian pace bowler Navvdeep Saini, a sharp chance to Ed Pollock’s left at slip. And Pollock also spilled a more straightforward chest-high opportunity offered by Madsen on 94 against Leach.Leach was head and shoulders above the rest of the Worcestershire attack and he made the only breakthrough with the ball during the opening two sessions.Worcestershire were guilty of bowling too many ‘four’ balls during the first part of the day to hand Derbyshire a momentum they never relinquished and their ground fielding was also below-par.Derbyshire resumed on 32 for 2 and Leach made a further breakthrough with the fourth ball of the day. Brooke Guest did not move his feet to a delivery which nibbled away as he edged through to keeper Gareth Roderick. It was Leach’s 33rd scalp of the season and he asked questions of both batters during a typically probing opening spell. But Indian pace bowler Saini initially found it hard to find the right line and length on his debut He was driven for a succession of boundaries by Madsen and du Plooy and Dillon Pennington also leaked runs during his initial spell and the fourth wicket pair looked untroubled against the Kookaburra ball on a slow pitch.Matthew Waite had a moral victory when du Plooy edged the allrounder for four. But Derbyshire scored freely and Madsen’s 56 ball half century contained 11 boundaries. The 100 partnership was completed in only 19.1 overs and du Plooy followed Madsen to his fifty from 68 deliveries with 10 fours. The morning session produced 126 runs off 28 overs.Saini bowled with plenty of pace and aggression in the post lunch spell and should have had picked up the wicket of du Plooy on 69 but Pollock spilled the chance at slip away to his left.Leach replaced the Indian pace bowler and Madsen on 94 edged him at chest height to Pollock who again spilled the opportunity and immediately left the field clutching his finger.Madsen completed his fourth hundred against Worcestershire off 148 balls with one six and 16 fours and du Plooy followed him to three figures from 144 deliveries with 14 boundaries. The first delivery with the second new ball finally broke the partnership when Madsen was lbw to Leach for 143 and then Haider Ali tried to cut Pennington and feathered through to Roderick. But du Plooy went onto complete his 150 from 249 balls with one six and 19 fours before the close.

Conditions in Australia 'totally different' to the rest of the world – Misbah-ul-Haq

The prospect of young tearaway Naseem Shah bowling in Australia excites Pakistan’s head coach

Danyal Rasool28-Oct-2019Pakistan head coach Misbah ul Haq spoke of the unique challenge of playing in Australia, and the difficulty of adjusting to conditions and the pitches, particularly for batsmen. The recently appointed coach, for whom the upcoming tour is just the second since being given the job, also termed it a big opportunity for his young side, while acknowledging Pakistan needed to become more consistent in their performances.”The conditions are totally different than when you play in all other parts of the world,” Misbah told reporters in Sydney. “So you need to adjust to that pace and bounce especially in the batting unit and obviously when you’re bowling, because in Asian conditions your biggest strength is your spinners. You have to bowl slightly differently here, the lengths are different, even the lines are different for the pacers here. So these are the challenges we are looking at ahead of this series. We want to address those and the kind of talent we have, if we can be disciplined in all departments, I think we can produce good results.”Misbah was appointed coach to relatively unanimous approval after the PCB decided to part ways with Mickey Arthur and his staff. A home series against a depleted Sri Lanka side represented an ostensibly soft start to his reign, but Pakistan found themselves overturned comprehensively in the T20I series, losing all three games comfortably, leading to the departure of Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain, with Azhar Ali succeeding him in Test cricket and Babar Azam in T20 internationals.Misbah admitted an Australia tour would be a challenge for the captains, but believed they were good enough players to manage. “Sometimes it’s a challenge for the captains. Azhar has already captained in Australia. He’s a bit experienced, he knows, and he’s played a lot of Test cricket. Babar is new, and so it will be really important for me to pass on advice. The team also needs to support him and execute plans.AFP/Getty Images

“Some of the bowlers who have experience can help him too. Imad Wasim is there, Wahab Riaz is there, Mohammad Irfan… they can really help him, setting the fields, having their bowling plans executed properly. Obviously it’s a new thing, new experience for him but I think all these challenges will help him get stronger and be bigger in stature.”In a squad already replete with surprises, Usman Qadir’s selection raised eyebrows, particularly in Australia. Until recently, it was believed the legspinner had ambitions to play international cricket for them. He’d even said so himself. Misbah spoke about the process that led to the 26-year old being picked for Pakistan.”The last couple of years now, we’ve just been playing Shadab Khan, who’s been slightly out of form. There are very few legspin options in Pakistan. A few of the youngsters have come up just in this season, and Usman Qadir is one of them. He played the T20 tournament there and he bowled well. We picked Usman because he has experience playing in Australia, knows the conditions and with his height, especially, gets little bit more bounce also. I thimk his variations, the flipper and the googly for example, gave him a bit of an advantage. That was the reason behind his selection. We need to develop someone in that department, so that we have a back-up for Shadab, especially before the World Cup.”The youngest players Pakistan have selected have come in the form of fast bowlers. Sixteen-year old Naseem Shah, 18-year old Muhammad Musa and the more experienced 19-year old Shaheen Afridi are all part of the Test squad, the first two almost completely unknown outside of Pakistan, which Misbah thought might give his side an advantage. He singled out Naseem for high praise.”He’s bowling well. Especially in the four-day competition that’s going on, first-class, he’s bowling well. The good thing about him is he’s bowling well in all spells. He’s now playing his fourth first class game of the [Quaid-e-Azam trophy] back home, and in all spells he’s bowling quick. His control with the ball is also good. I’m looking forward to him bowling here in Australia where the conditions will also give him some assistance in getting pace and bounce. Everybody is excited to get him in the team.”There is always the surprise that plays a part in selection but again you need to bowl well in Australian conditions. Only pace is not going to favour you. The good thing with him is he can bowl in good areas also. At Under-19 levels he bowled really well with the new ball and the old ball and he’s doing that in first-class cricket, too. Looking forward, if he can just put the ball in the right areas at that pace, it could be a surprise package.”There was still time for Misbah’s characteristically bone-dry wit to emerge, too. “Of course the unpredictability could be frightening for Australia. But it could be for us, too.”

Moeen Ali plays headhunter as Dwayne Bravo agrees Worcestershire deal

Colin Munro also signs as 2018 champions add firepower to T20 Blast squad

Matt Roller23-Mar-2022Moeen Ali transformed from allrounder into headhunter during the recent Bangladesh Premier League, using his time in the league to convince Dwayne Bravo to sign for Worcestershire for this summer’s T20 Blast.Moeen and Bravo are Chennai Super Kings team-mates in the IPL and were both part of the BPL’s biosecure bubble last month, with Moeen’s side Comilla Victorians beating Bravo’s Fortune Barishal in the final. During the course of the tournament, Moeen, Worcestershire’s T20 captain, approached Bravo to see if he would be interested in spending six weeks in England immediately after the IPL.Bravo, who retired from international cricket after last year’s T20 World Cup, has since signed a contract that will see him play at least 10 of Worcestershire’s group games, as well as the knockout stages if they qualify. The Blast runs from May 25, when Worcestershire play Yorkshire on the opening night, until Finals Day on July 16.Related

“When Moeen mentioned the possibility of me coming over for the Blast whilst we were both at the BPL, it was an opportunity I wanted to seriously look at,” Bravo said. “It’s great that it has all come together. The Vitality Blast is one of the domestic T20 titles that I am yet to win and I will be working hard to help the team achieve success.”Bravo, 38, is heading towards the end of his career but has huge pedigree in the format as a death-bowling allrounder. He is the leading wicket-taker in T20 history with 571, more than 100 clear of Imran Tahir in second, and only his former West Indies team-mate Kieron Pollard has made more appearances. He has previously played county cricket for Kent, Essex, Middlesex and Surrey but is yet to win the Blast.Worcestershire also announced the signing of Colin Munro on Wednesday, who will be their other overseas player in the Blast and effectively replaces Matthew Wade as a left-handed top-order option. Wade, who was due to spend the full season at New Road, pulled out of his deal after he was signed by Gujarat Titans for the IPL, and Worcestershire have already confirmed the signing of Azhar Ali to replace him in their County Championship side.Munro has previously played English domestic cricket for Hampshire and Manchester Originals•Getty Images

Munro previously spent two seasons with Worcestershire when they were losing quarter-finalists in 2014 and 2015, and is available for the entirety of the competition with his international career effectively over.Worcestershire won the Blast for the first time in 2018 and were losing finalists the following season, but their performances have tailed off and they have failed to get out of the group in the last two years. They have lost Riki Wessels (released), Daryl Mitchell (retired) and Ross Whiteley (Hampshire) over the off-season but are confident they can challenge for the title again after adding Bravo, Munro and Ed Pollock (Warwickshire) to their squad.Paul Pridgeon, the chair of their cricket steering group, said: “To put Dwayne Bravo and Colin Munro in the mix with the players we already have in the squad is excellent news. Moeen has been playing in the Bangladesh Premier League with Dwayne Bravo this winter, has been talking to him and said ‘come and play for us’ – and he agreed.”Dwayne is available for us at least the final ten group games plus the quarter-finals and final, but that number will increase if Chennai don’t make the knockout stages… to have Colin for the entire tournament and Dwayne for a major proportion of it is great news.”
