Estratégia perfeita e eficiência alta: Roger festeja vitória do Palmeiras

Pietersen escapes punishment over Twitter tirade

Kevin Pietersen will not be disciplined for his latest Twitter outburst but his captain Andrew Strauss has warned him to be responsible with his comments in the future

Kevin Pietersen will not be disciplined for his latest Twitter outburst but his captain Andrew Strauss has warned him to be responsible with his comments in the future. In a series of tweets Pietersen concluded it was “pathetic” that the practice wickets were not covered more quickly when it rained on Wednesday. When asked if Pietersen crossed the line Strauss said: “No he didn’t. There are kinds of degrees of everything and we don’t want anything that distracts our attention from what is important, which is getting on the cricket pitch and performing.”Pietersen vented after missing out on a long bat by tweeting: “What should a groundsman make sure he does two days out from a Test match?” He followed it with: “Cover the nets when it rains maybe?” His final comment on the subject was: “Pathetic!”Pietersen’s most famous explosive tweet came after he was dropped from the limited-overs sides in August and the incident resulted in England introducing specific regulations for micro-blogging. “We have got a set of guidelines for our players and we fully expect them to adhere to those guidelines as much as possible,” Strauss said.Strauss is not a tweeter but is happy for his team-mates to embrace the format to connect with their supporters. “I wouldn’t prefer all of our players to be exactly like me, it would be a pretty boring dressing room,” he said. “Everyone is different and a lot of the guys really enjoy it. And it is a good way of broadening the appeal of the game, there is no doubt about it.”But it has to be used responsibly and by and large it has been. We have to make sure that we don’t have any more incidences of the likes of what we have seen previously.”

Spurs: Paratici handed De Vrij boost

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a huge boost in their bid to bring Stefan de Vrij to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Football Insider, who claim that a recruitment source has revealed that Inter Milan have informed the centre-back he will be free to leave San Siro this summer for a figure in the region of £15m.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

The report goes on to state that the Serie A side are yet to open new contract talks with the Netherlands international – whose current deal expires in the summer of 2023 – and are now willing to cash in on the 30-year-old for a cut-price fee, with Tottenham, Newcastle United and Aston Villa all thought to be keen.

Paratici must move

Considering the fact that De Vrij previously commanded an asking price of £40m, in addition to it being reported that Spurs are in the market for a left sided-centre-back and Antonio Conte being known to be a huge fan of the defender after working together in Italy, it would appear as if Fabio Paratici simply must make a move for the Dutchman this summer.

Indeed, over his 32 Serie A appearances under the management of Conte last season, the £31.5m-rated centre-back highly impressed in the Nerazzurri’s title-winning campaign, helping his side keep 11 clean sheets, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 0.9 tackles, 2.9 clearances and winning 3.3 duels – at a success rate of 60% – per game.

These metrics saw the £116k-per-week left-footer who former Lazio defender Mauricio dubbed a “monster” average a very respectable SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as Inter’s tenth-best performer in the league.

As such, taking into account his undoubted ability, Spurs’ rather desperate need for a new left-sided centre-back and an asking price that is under half of his current Transfermarkt valuation, it would appear a very wise move for Paratici to launch an offensive for the 30-year-old in the coming months – as signing De Vrij for just £15m would certainly be something of a bargain.

O goleiro Sidão (contratura no adutor direito), Reinaldo (estiramento no adutor esquerdo) e Edimar (entorse no joelho direito) estão no departamento médico e trabalham no Reffis.

Luke Butterworth capped off an excellent all-round game with a match-winning five-wicket haul as Tasmania sneaked home by 23 runs to deliver Victoria’s first Sheffield Shield loss at the MCG since October 2007. Rob Quiney’s third first-class century brought Victoria within sight of their target of 285, before he was the last man out, caught at gully off Ben Hilfenhaus for 102.Fittingly, it was Butterworth who took the final catch, after he set up the result with four top-order wickets as Victoria slumped to 5 for 88. But Tasmania’s march was halted by Quiney and Matthew Wade, who combined for a 142-run partnership that brought the match back on to an even footing at tea. However, when Wade fell for 60 to Xavier Doherty, it sparked a tail-end collapse that scuppered Victoria’s hopes. All the responsibility was heaped on to Quiney, the last of the recognised batsmen, but as stumps drew nearer they lost their last five wickets for 31 to hand Tasmania victory. The win was a terrific 27th birthday present for Butterworth, who finished with match figures of 9 for 77 in addition to making a valuable 39 in the second innings. Tasmania’s last pair had added eight runs on the final morning, before Peter Siddle grabbed the last wicket to end up with 4 for 30.

The Best and Worst transfers of 2021/2022

It has been a magnificent season so far. With just a few games left the bookmakers can’t split the teams fighting to avoid the drop, break into the top four or win the title outright. As usual it has been a season of ups and downs, joy and despair, and also as usual it has been a season when the hopes and expectations of those summer (or January) transfers have either crashed and burned or flourished into future club legends. Now is a good time to see the best and worst of the deals done in and for this season.

The Successes

The summer saw some big name and big money moves, but maybe unsurprisingly, none of those (with the exception of perhaps one) feature in this part of the list. Instead, it is full of mainly “bargain” buys that have either had a huge impact on their club or have put themselves in a position to be moved on for a substantial profit.

Arsenal

It is not always the case, but with the benefit of hindsight, Arteta’s transfer activity from the summer has been almost to a man, incredibly successful. Despite coming under immense pressure in the early stages of the season, Arteta has turned the side around and they are challenging for a top four place with an intent not seen since the better Wenger years.

Japanese full-back  Takehiro Tomiyasu has taken to the Premiership like a duck to water, and at £17 million looks like a snip. Martin Ødegaard may have been on loan last season, but his permanent move in the summer also looks like a very good bit of business, with the Norwegian attacking midfielder being one of the team’s stand out performers this season. There is also Aaron Ramsdale who joined for £25 million from Sheffield United. Ramsdale has helped to instil a stability and confidence in the back line, that has been sadly missing in that part of North London for far too long.

Christian Eriksen

Brentford’s January signing raised a few eyebrows for several reasons, but it now looks like a stroke of genius. It is too much to say that he has single handedly saved the West London club from the drop, but his performances have gone a long way to help them to achieve safety. He gave the club a lift just when they needed it, he delivered crucial goals and assists, and made the fans and players believe they were a genuine topflight team. All that for a free transfer.

Tino Livramento

After joining in the summer for just £5 million, Livramento has been one of Southampton’s standout players, and looks like he has been playing in the topflight all his life. The England Under 21 may have a lot of competition for the role at full international level, but if he carries on the way he has started that has to be a possibility and that transfer fee looks like one of the bargains of the century.

Emmanuel Dennis

Unfortunately for Watford fans, it looks like they very well may be down, in what has been a disappointing season that has seen yet more managerial changes. One bright spark has been their Nigerian striker Dennis and you have to think that without him, they would have been down by Christmas. Again, the £3.6 million price tag shows that there is value out there if you know where to look.

Newcastle

The January transfer window story was Newcastle. When Eddie Howe was handed the job and more importantly a large pot of money, the jury was out on whether he would be able to attract the right kind of players to the club, and get them playing in a way that would push them up the table. He has answered both of those points with an emphatic yes, and his Newcastle side will finish in upper mid table after looking like relegation certainties just a few short months ago.

Ronaldo

There is a case for Ronaldo to be in the next list, but at £13.5 million (a figure that is eclipsed by the sales revenue from his shirt sales) it is hard to put the blame for United’s woeful season at the Portuguese striker’s feet. Ronaldo is also the club’s top scorer, and has got them out of a hole domestically and in Europe on several occasions, so you have to think that without him their season would have been even worse.

The Failures

Lukaku

When Champions League holders signed the Belgian striker for just shy of £100 million it looked like Chelsea had the final piece of the jigsaw to take on Manchester City and Liverpool. Sadly it has not worked out that way, and he has been as poor on the field as he has been disruptive off it.

Manchester United

Unfortunately for United fans, the Reds marched on in the wrong direction

There has been a lot wrong at Old Trafford this season. Jordan Sancho has not been the cause of that, but his eagerly awaited arrival at old Trafford has not been the success everyone thought it would be. On the plus side, new boss Erik Ten Hag is probably just the man to get the most from him. The same could be said for another of their summer recruits Donny van de Beek, who failed to make any impact at united and is doing the same at Everton.

Norwich

Last time Norwich were promoted they failed to spend any money and the inevitable happened. They went down without a fight. This time it looked like it was going to be different. They spent big, maybe not in terms of some EPL clubs, but certainly compared with their past endeavours and most clubs around them. However it is not merely a case of spending money, it has to be spent in the right areas and on the right kind of players. Norwich spectacularly failed to do both of those things. Instead of buying athletic, proven players who will be capable of competing in what was always going to be a street fight of a season, they opted to spend on young, untested and in the most part physically slight players with the exact same result as last time. The problem they have now is that whereas they would have been thinking they were investing in players for the future, almost all of them to a man will have seen their value – along with their confidence – massively decrease.

Leeds: Adam Forshaw out for the season with knee injury

Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw will miss Monday’s meeting with Crystal Palace and the five games that will follow due to a fresh knee problem.

The Lowdown: Forshaw’s season

Forshaw, who missed a whopping 71 games with a hip problem, made a long-awaited return to action last August against Crewe Alexandra.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-42/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Englishman has gone on to make 26 appearances in all competitions, 22 of which have come in the Premier League.

He missed his first game under new manager Jesse Marsch against Watford earlier this month, and he won’t be featuring again as the Whites look to avoid relegation.

The Latest: Six-week absence

Football Insider were the first to break the news regarding Forshaw after being informed by a source on Friday morning.

They described it as a ‘devastating blow’, with the 30-year-old in a leg brace after suffering a knock in training.

Jesse Marsch confirmed the injury at his pre-match press conference, revealing the midfielder has a fractured knee cap and will be sidelined for six weeks.

The Verdict: Never ending…

Marsch has already suffered three big injury blows since taking over from Marcelo Bielsa in Tyler Roberts, Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford, so this update on Forshaw is another problem he’ll have to deal with.

The good news is that Kalvin Phillips will make his first start since December, while Mateusz Klich and Robin Koch look set to battle it out for a place next to the England international at Selhurst Park.

Another midfield setback would leave Marsch extremely short of options, but fingers crossed that won’t happen with the battle to avoid the drop getting tense.

Afghanistan slide to massive defeat

Just days after humbling Kenya in an Intercontinental Cup fixture in Nairobi, Afghanistan were at the receiving end of a thrashing themselves, sliding to a 92-run defeat against the same opponents in the first of three ODIs in Nairobi. It was a low-scoring contest with both batting line-ups collapsing after promising starts to their innings.Kenya chose to bat and openers Seren Waters and David Obuya were involved in a steady stand of 55. David’s brother Collins and Steve Tikolo, Kenya’s most experienced player, consolidated the innings after the openers were dismissed, taking them to a healthy 139 for 2 in the 35th over. Tikolo eased to a half-century, his 23rd in ODIs, and the situation looked promising for the hosts but their batting then fell apart.Mirwais Ashraf, the medium-pacer, triggered the slide, bowling Tikolo and accounting for Collins Obuya and Maurice Ouma in a space of two overs. Legspinning allrounder Samiullah Shenwari strangled the innings from the other end with a couple of wickets, including Thomas Odoyo, who, like Tikolo, has been a part of the Kenyan set-up since the 1996 World Cup. From 139 for 2, Kenya slid to 145 for 8. It was captain Jimmy Kamande who rose to the occasion, resisting with the lower order to make 31 and inducing some respectability to the score, extending it to 180.As it turned out, Kenya had made enough well before the collapse ensued as Afghanistan’s batting flopped. Things appeared to be on track when the openers had added 33 but their start set a deceptive tone for the innings. Once Karim Sadiq was run out in the eighth over, the Kenya bowlers attacked ruthlessly to derail Afghanistan. Noor Ali Zadran, Sadiq’s opening partner, was left stranded amid the relentless fall of wickets at the other end, as none of the other batsmen who followed Sadiq reached double-figures.Medium-pacer Nehemiah Odhiambo, who has five relatives involved in cricket in Kenya, grabbed three wickets, supported by offspinner James Ngoche and Odoyo, who picked up two each. Afghanistan folded for a humiliating 88 to trail 0-1 in the three-match series.
