Real Madrid seem to be growing in stature as far as La Liga is concerned.

Los Blancos are finally back in the upper part of the table and are currently above both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. But the important thing for Zinedine Zidane is that things slowly seem to be falling into place at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Whites have dropped points on two occasions so far in the season but their narrow 1-0 victory over Sevilla last weekend was a big one, even though the scoreboard would not necessarily suggest it.

Following that win, it wouldn’t be a stretch to conclude that Zidane might just apply the same formula he used in Andalusia in Wednesday’s clash with Osasuna.

With that in mind, and taking Real Madrid’s injuries into consideration – Marco Asensio, Luka Modric and Marcelo are all likely to be out among others – here’s what we think their starting XI might look like:

Thibaut Courtois finally got his clean sheet in La Liga last weekend against Sevilla. That was Real Madrid’s first in the ongoing campaign and it could prompt Zidane to leave the majority of his backline unchanged.

Unfortunately for the Whites, Ferland Mendy has been officially confirmed as the latest injured player in their midst. And with Marcelo already out of the picture, Nacho should be called upon to play at left-back.

The well-known tandem of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane will occupy the centre-back positions. After a great game against Sevilla, Daniel Carvajal is bound to start on the right again.

The middle of the park will also remain unchanged, with Toni Kroos, Casemiro and James Rodriguez all once again featuring in the starting XI and just behind a trident that is likely to become Real’s trademark.

Eden Hazard will play on the left, with Karim Benzema central and Gareth Bale on the right.

Once both Marcelo and Luka Modric return to action and most likely into the starting lineup, we could be looking at Zidane’s gala XI for all the big games but even without the aforementioned duo, this lineup is formidable and capable of picking up all three points.

Osasuna, indeed, have won just once this season, a 1-0 triumph over Leganes.

Real will expect to collect all three points.

Antoine Griezmann was Barcelona’s big summer signing in the last transfer window.

The Frenchman arrived from Atletico Madrid and seeing how the Catalans had to fork out a hefty sum of €120m (£104.4m) to get their man, it’s safe to say that a lot is expected from him at the Camp Nou.

But so far, he’s experienced quite a rocky start to his new career at the Catalan capital.

And granted, scoring three goals and assisting a further two in just seven La Liga games is by no means a bad record but some of his performances in important games, like the one against Inter Milan in the Champions League, should already be cause for alarm at Barcelona.

This is mostly due to the fact that, for one reason or the other, Ernesto Valverde sees Griezmann as a left-winger as opposed to a centre-forward, despite making his name as a centre-forward at Atletico.

But Valverde is adamant in maintaining this approach, at least for now as it seems, and it still remains to be seen whether the Blaugrana’s big signing will be able to adapt to this challenge and overcome it in the near future.

Further proof of how his performances clearly differ when his position on the pitch changes can be found in his latest display for his national team, France.

The current champions of the world drew with Turkey in one of their Euro 2020 qualifiers and Griezmann was deployed in a more central role, as the team’s no.10, just behind the striker; a role that puts him in a more familiar position on the pitch and a role that offers him more freedom than what he’s getting at Barca.

Even though he was not at his brilliant best, the Frenchman was still the highest-rated player on the team with a 7.6 rating according to Sofascore.

He warranted that rating with his assist that gave France the lead and also by deploying six key passes and by having 75 touches on the night.

Apart from that, Griezmann also maintained 81% passing accuracy with a total of 43 passes and had five shots, two of which were on target.

All in all, the main takeaway from that game is that he was involved in all the proceedings on the pitch and even managed to impact the result directly by assisting Olivier Giroud for that opening goal.

The difference between that performance and the ones he has produced for Barcelona lately is still huge and game by game, Valverde’s decision to keep Griezmann out wide is becoming all the more baffling.

Uma coincidência na tabela da Copa Libertadores pode criar um impasse para Corinthians e Santos na competição sul-americana. É que ambos têm jogos marcados para o mesmo dia e cidade, na última rodada da fase de grupos da Libertadores. De acordo com a tabela divulgada pela Conmebol, no dia 24 de maio o Timão recebe o Millonarios (COL) na Arena Corinthians em Itaquera, enquanto o Peixe recebe o Real Garcilaso (PER) no Pacaembu, localizado na zona oeste da capital paulista.

Em casos assim, as autoridades de São Paulo têm recomendado mudanças na data para não haver problemas de segurança. Um atenuante é que os jogos são em horários diferentes. O jogo do Corinthians está marcado para as 21h30, enquanto o do Santos, para as 19h15. Ainda assim, existe a possibilidade de encontro entre torcedores nos transportes públicos.

Alheios a um possível entrave, Corinthians e Santos já comercializam ingressos para as partidas. Consultados por assessoria de imprensa, os clubes disseram que as datas das partidas estão mantidas. O Peixe disse que apenas seguiu recomendação da Conmebol.

A questão poderia ser evitada se o Santos mandasse o jogo em seu estádio, na Vila Belmiro, em Santos, mas a diretoria tem optado por atuar na capital para atrair mais público e atender os santistas da região. Essa é uma tendência da atual gestão, que já mandou o duelo contra o Nacional (URU), no dia 15 de março, no Pacaembu.

Para se ter uma ideia, a Polícia Militar de São Paulo foi contra a realização de treinos abertos ao público de Palmeiras e Corinthians marcados para este sábado na capital paulista. Os eventos estão marcados para às 10h, acontecerão praticamente na mesma distância dos jogos da Libertadores, mas a PM disse que não pode garantir efetivo. As duas torcidas utilizariam a mesma linha de metrô para chegar à Arena e ao Allianz Parque, casa do Palmeiras.

Premier League outfit Crystal Palace are monitoring RC Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure, according to the BBC, ahead of a potential summer move.

The 22-year-old has been a kingpin for the Ligue 1 outfit this term, making 34 appearances across all competitions this term with his side sat in eighth place.

Moreover, the Malian has scored one goal and registered four assists from defensive midfield this term and already boasts eight senior caps for Mali.

It’s no surprise that Palace are being linked with midfielders ahead of this summer with both Cheikhou Kouyate and James McArthur’s contracts set to expire this summer whilst Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher will be returning to west London with his future hanging in the balance.

The 22-year-old has been excellent for the Eagles this term, scoring eight goals and assisting a further three from midfield. Although, the chances of the Englishman returning to Selhurst Park on a permanent basis next season look slim, with it reported last month that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to have the midfielder next term.

Therefore, Patrick Vieira’s midfield will need a major overhaul in the summer, and Doucoure could prove to be the perfect candidate.

Valued at £9m, the 22-year-old could make the move to England for a bargain fee. Moreover, in a performance against Nice last month, journalist Andrés Onrubia Ramos claimed that the Malian was “destroying everyone.”

In Ligue 1 this season, the defensive midfielder has averaged 67.4 touches a match whilst completing 48.2 passes at an accuracy of 87% and 1.1 key passes.

Furthermore, Doucoure doesn’t shy away from the dirty work, contributing two interceptions, 2.2 tackles and 0.7 clearances a game.

Compared to Palace’s current preferred option in that deeper midfield role Kouyate, the Malian’s stats are generally better.

The Senegal international averages fewer touches with 41.2 whilst completing less than half of Doucoure’s passes at 23.6 at a lower accuracy of 82%.

Although, the two midfielders offer very similar defensive stats, with Kouyate averaging 1.2 clearances a game whilst also making two interceptions and 2.2 tackles.

Vieira has already made his desire to bring down the average age of his squad, having signed 19-year-old Michael Olise, 21-year-old Marc Guehi, 21-year-old Gallagher and 23-year-old Odsonne Edouard last summer.

Therefore, signing Doucoure would make perfect sense in an area that must be strengthened over the summer.

وقال مرتضى في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر فضائية “الزمالك”: “حزين مثل كل جمهور الزمالك، لي سؤال؟ أتدخل ولا لا، ما هو المطلوب، هل أنا من يضع تشكيل الفريق أو أمير مرتضى منصور أو أسامة نبيه؟”.

وتابع: “هذه مسؤولية كاملة لفيريرا، هو الذي يضع التشيكل، لو أخطأ هو الذي يتحمل المسؤولية، أجاد، الكل يشيد به”.

وأردف: “أنا مع جماهير الزمالك في حزنهم بعد التعادل مع المصري، ليس من سلطتي أتدخل في عمله، ولو تدخلت سيقال إنني (بطفش الراجل)”.

وأكمل: “حزين وغاضب مثل كل جماهير الزمالك، لا يجرؤ أمير أن يقول لفيريرا من الذي يشارك ومن الذي لا يشارك، دور أمير هو تهيئة الأجواء في الفريق”.

وواصل: “يا جماهير الزمالك هناك بعض اللاعبين فقدوا الثقة في أنفسهم، أنتم (اللي طفشتوا محمود علاء) من الزمالك بالقاضية ممكن”.

وزاد: “الزمالك يمر بأصعب مرحلة في تاريخه، كيف نحصد لقبي دوري ومثلهما كأس، غير مسموح لك، أنت مسموح لك بكأس واحد”.

واستطرد: “الدولة تشاهد النادي ينهار عن عمد، أنا والنادي نتحمل ما هو فوق طاقة البشر”.

واختتم: “كاد صبري أن ينفذ، ولو نفذ لا أريد من أحد أن يحزن، لأن الأمر زائد من ممدوح عباس ومحمود الخطيب والعتال، تريدون الزمالك يهبط للدرجة الثانية؟”.
