Talks between Everton and Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp over a deal for right-back Aurelio Buta are now at an ‘advanced’ stage, according to journalist Rudy Galetti. 

The lowdown

The 24-year-old has played every minute of Antwerp’s four Jupiler Pro League games so far this season. It has been a tricky start for the side who finished third last season; they’ve picked up only one win and incurred two defeats.

However, Buta has been one of their shining lights so far, his average WhoScored rating of 7.11 the fifth-highest in the squad. He has contributed two assists as well as averaging 4.5 tackles and 2.3 clearances per 90 minutes.

Journalist Aster Nzeyimana has hailed the Portuguese defender as ‘one of the best full-backs’ in the division, adding that the 24-year-old is ‘very gifted’ technically and has been ‘instrumental’ to Antwerp’s successes in recent years.

The latest

Galetti tweeted that negotiations have progressed to the bidding stage, with a €4m (£3.4m) Everton offer presently ‘under discussion’.

He added that it is an ‘evolving situation’, so further developments should be expected soon.

The verdict

It was reported by The Athletic in July that Everton were hopeful of signing another right-back this summer as a long-term successor to club captain Seamus Coleman.

Clearly, the search has dragged on. For instance, Denzel Dumfries was one name under consideration, but he has now sealed a transfer to Italian champions Inter.

Buta may not be enormously high-profile but £3.4m looks like a bargain for an all-action full-back whose figures suggest he can chip in going forward while also defending diligently. They might even have unearthed a gem if they get this one over the line at such a low cost.

– حال استمرار إقامة النهائي للمسابقات الإفريقية بنظام المباراة الواحدة، تقتضي الشفافية أن يقوم «كاف» بإعداد لائحة خاصة بالمباراة النهائية تضمن تحقيق العدالة وتحفظ حقوق كل الأطراف، وأن يتم الإعلان عن الملاعب التي سوف تستضيف المباريات النهائية قبل بدء البطولات على الأقل.

– أن يدرس «كاف» تدوير استضافة المباريات النهائية بين الدول الإفريقية، ويحجب الاستضافة عن الدول التي فازت بالتنظيم من قبل، لمدة خمس سنوات، حتى تحصل بقية الدول الإفريقية على فرصة مماثلة، وأن يقوم «كاف» بدعم ومساعدة هذه الدول لتنمية اللعبة في القارة كلها.

– تطبيق تقنية حكم الفيديو المساعد الـ«VAR» في كل أدوار البطولات الإفريقية لتحقيق الحد الأدنى من العدالة.. وإفريقيا ليست أقل من أوروبا.

– أن يقوم «كاف» بإعادة صياغة للوائحه الحالية.. لتكون حاسمة ولا تحتمل أكثر من تفسير.. علمًا بأننا ندرك أن هذه مسئولية «كاف» ولكن التعاون يستوجب الاستماع إلى وجهات نظر كافة الأندية.

– دراسة مضاعفة المبالغ المالية المقدمة من «كاف» للفرق المشاركة في المسابقات المختلفة، لأن ما يتقاضاه صاحب المركز الأول حاليًّا، وهو الرقم الأعلى في أي مسابقة إفريقية لا يتناسب مع تكلفة الانتقالات والإقامة ومكافآت اللاعبين والأجهزة الفنية والإدارية والطبية وعلاج المصابين

واصل لاعب منتخب إنجلترا للإسكواش، محمد الشوربجي، تصريحات النارية عبر الصحافة البريطانية بعد قراره بتمثيل إنجلترا بدلًا من مصر دوليًا وسط غضب وانتقادات شديدة.

وعبرت الجماهير المصرية وبعض المشاهير عن غضبهم من الشوربجي الذي حصل على أول بطولة تحت العلم الإنجليزي بعد تتويجه ببطولة بريطانية الوطنية للإسكواش.

وأجرى الشوربجي حوارًا مع صحيفة “تيليجراف” البريطانية، وقال: “قراري بتمثيل إنجلترا لم يأت بسبب مدرب أو العيش في مدينة جديدة، لكنني اعتبره أصعب قرار اتخذته على الإطلاق”.

وتابع: “لطالما عرف عني الجميع أنني شجاع على مدار مسيرتي، لطالما امتلكت الصفات القتالية وأريد أن اواجه هذا التحدي الجديد وأحقق الألقاب تحت العلم الإنجليزي”.

وأضاف: “عندما اقترب مني الجميع في منتخب إنجلترا، لم أكن أمر بأفضل فترة في مسيرتي، لكنهم آمنوا بي، لقد فعلت إنجلترا الكثير من أجلي منذ ان كان عمري 15 عامًا وساعدتني في الحصول على التأشيرات اللازمة للبقاء فيها”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “الحياة في إنجلترا بسيطة جدًا، ولذلك اتخذتها موطنًا لي، عكس ما واجهته خلال مسيرتي في مصر، الأشخاص المقربون مني يعرفون تمامًا ما مررت به”.

واستمر: “الشيء المهم هو عدم اتخاذ القرار بدافع الغضب، الناس في مصر لا علاقة لهم بالقرار، لقد اتخذته بسبب ما كان أفضل بالنسبة لي، لأنني لم أحصل على الدعم الذي أردته، لكنني اتخذت قرارًا باللعب لبلد منحني كل شيء، أنا اللاعب الوحيد الذي أذهب إلى مصر بدون صورة لي في المطار، لقد آلمني ذلك”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “أريد أن أفوز ببطولة العالم مرة أخرى مع إنجلترا، والعودة إلى المركز الأولى في التصنيف وسأفعل كل ما في وسعي للوصول إلى ذلك”.

Fulham look to have completed a deal to bring Rodrigo Muniz to Craven Cottage.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Fabrizio Romano, with the journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that Fulham and Flamengo have reached an agreement regarding the fee of the centre-forward, believed to be around €8m (£6.8m) plus a 25% sell-on clause.

Romano went on to state that the deal has now been completed, suggesting that an announcement from the club regarding the signing of the 20-year-old should come very soon.

In his tweet, the journalist said: “Paperwork signed between Fulham and Flamengo for Rodrigo Muniz, deal completed. Muniz will join Fulham for €8m + 25% future sale percentage to Flamengo.”

Music to the ears of fans

While Fulham’s interest in Muniz has been well documented over the last few weeks, it appeared as if a deal for the striker could have been slipping away from the Cottagers, with Middlesbrough reported to be attempting to pounce on the west London side’s lack of action in finalising a deal for the Brazilian.

However, Romano’s latest comments all but confirming the signing of Muniz are sure to be music to the ears of the Craven Cottage faithful, as the younger looks to be a player with a significant amount of potential.

Indeed, over his nine Serie A appearances for Flamengo so far this season, the £2.7m-rated man has scored three goals, provided one assist and created two big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 0.6 key passes and taking 2.4 shots per game.

These metrics have seen the 20-year-old earn an average SofaScore match rating of 7.16, ranking him as the club’s joint eighth-best performer in the Brazilian top flight.

As such, it would very much seem as if Muniz is not only a player who could play an influential role in Fulham’s future but also one who clearly boasts the ability to provide the club’s promotion hopes with a significant boost this season – something that will delight Marco Silva and fans of the club alike.

Cricinfo staff24-Sep-2008The Pakistan Cricket Board has signed a three-year contract worth US$9 million with Dubai Sports City, which will serve as the home venue for Pakistan’s future cricketing commitments after touring teams raised security concerns over travelling to Pakistan. “Under the recently-signed contract, the Pakistan team will play different events at the offshore venue for three years after the completion of Dubai Cricket Stadium next year ,” said Shafqat Nagmi, the PCB’s chief operating officer, while announcing the deal at a news conference.Naghmi said the stadium is likely to be completed in February 2009 and will host a tri-series involving Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in April. For the next two years, the team will be participating in Twenty20 events.According to a senior PCB official, Pakistan will play four Twenty20 matches in that period with the board expected to rake in US$3 million per match for the three-year assignment. The PCB has already suffered heavy financial losses this year with the postponement of the Champions Trophy and Australia’s refusal to tour Pakistan for a Test series earlier in March-April this year.Ehsan Mani, the former ICC president, however was opposed to the idea of shifting matches away from Pakistan. “By offshore series Pakistan can perhaps get the TV rights money but there will be no crowds and sponsorships,” Mani told the . “If there was no cricket played in Pakistan, it will be loss to cricket, loss of Pakistan cricket in the longer run.”Concerns also loomed over the lack of international cricket being played, with only a quadrangular tournament in Toronto involving hosts Canada, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe scheduled for October, ahead of the home series against India in January 2009. “It is a lucrative contract which will help in overcoming the loss after postponement of Champions Trophy,” said Naghmi. “Through this deal we will be generating enough funds besides having a definite programme of our team’s participation in international cricket”.
