West Ham now eyeing Origi

According to a report by 90min, West Ham United have joined the plethora of clubs eyeing Liverpool forward Divock Origi – with the player’s agents ‘working hard’ to seal his Anfield exit this summer.

The Lowdown: West Ham in centre-forward hunt…

The Hammers have been linked with many forwards since before the start of this window and thereafter.

As per Claret & Hugh, manager David Moyes has set his sights on bolstering West Ham’s attacking options as one of his three main transfer priorities this summer.

The usual suspects like Tammy Abraham and Youssef En-Nesyri remain linked, while new names like Paul Onuachu and Roman Yaremchuk have only just entered the frame in recent weeks.

The Latest: West Ham now eyeing Origi…

As per 90min’s ‘transfer insider’ Graeme Bailey, the Irons are now monitoring Belgium international Origi as the player’s agents work tirelessly behind the scenes to find him a new club.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-updates/” title=”West Ham updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Origi, despite enjoying some very memorable moments in a Liverpool shirt, is heavily out of favour under manager Jurgen Klopp and now could be the time to leave Merseyside.

It is reported that the Reds now want Ismaila Sarr from Watford and are ready to pay up to £40 million, but could first have to make room by offloading Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri.

As well as unnamed clubs abroad, West Ham are interested in the 26-year-old alongside Southampton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Rangers and Celtic.

The Verdict: Avoid…

Scoring just 58 goals over a senior career spanning 282 matches for three different clubs (Transfermarkt), we believe West Ham should avoid this one.

Origi started just two matches in the Premier League over 2020/2021 and is valued at £10.8 million by Transfermarkt, not to mention he has only bagged around 19 top flight goals over 100 league appearances for Liverpool.

Indeed, despite Hammers legend Frank McAvennie recently dubbing him ‘wonderful’ (Football Insider), there is no doubt that the forward should be way down Moyes’ striker shortlist, with other candidates boasting more consistent playing time and superior goal records.

ATUAÇÕES: Richarlison comanda a virada do Flu no Clássico Vovô

Richarlison comandou a virada e recebeu a maior nota.

5,5
Marcinho

5,5
Renan Fonseca
Entrou após o intervalo e o time levou três gols.

O treinador não conseguiu fazer o time reagir a tempo.

FLUMINENSE
5,5
DIEGO CAVALIERI

Correu mais no segundo tempo, porém seguiu discreto.

7,0
SORNOZA
Muita qualidade no passe.

7,5
WELLINGTON SILVA
Muito bem e muito veloz desde o apito inicial. Fatal no mano a mano, deu início à grande virada do Fluminense.

8,5
RICHARLISON

7,0
ABEL BRAGA
Estratégia do primeiro tempo deu errada, mas a bronca no vestiário e as mudanças surtiram efeito. Time fez um segundo tempo quase perfeito.

O Central parecia perdido no jogo e, aproveitando a deixa, o Santa marcou o terceiro ainda no primeiro tempo.

Spurs: Gold relays exciting Nuno claim

An exciting claim has been made about new Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo this week…

What’s the word?

As relayed by football.london’s Alasdair Gold, current Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga waxed lyrical about the Portuguese coach. “Had a really enjoyable chat with @JTanganga99,” claimed the reporter. “He said he can tell from training that Nuno Espirito Santo’s Spurs will be an attacking one.”

Indeed, the 22-year-old revealed a little insight into what has been happening on the training pitch since Nuno’s arrival earlier this month, saying: “I can tell you for sure that we’re going to be attacking. That’s because we’ve been working hard on it in training and on pressing, and implementing his ideas.”

Fans were wrong?

These comments should alleviate many of the fears which surfaced when the 47-year-old former Wolves boss was first linked with the north Londoners.

Some members of the Lilywhites faithful were so against the idea of him being appointed that they actively voiced their concerns on social media, leading to a campaign against him. This was because many claimed that he would bring “negative” and “dire” football and wouldn’t be too different to what they witnessed under Jose Mourinho, as sourced by talkSPORT.

However, those who were against Nuno should now have egg on their face after this exciting claim from Tanganga, as it suggests that they were completely wrong and that the Portuguese is likely to get Spurs back to being the attacking side they once were under Mauricio Pochettino.

In fact, some of the reaction has already flipped completely, with many supporters seemingly buzzing in the replies to the tweet from Gold. One fan even claimed to be “excited for the new season” – a drastic change in attitude, that’s for sure.

Nuno’s Wolves side were amongst the lowest scorers in the Premier League last season, netting just once more than relegated West Brom (35), so Spurs fans’ fears weren’t unjustified, although there were plenty of factors behind that low scoring return.

The Midlands outfit sold Diogo Jota to Liverpool, and then Raul Jimenez suffered a cruel head injury which effectively curtailed his whole season. In the two seasons before that, Wolves were a thrilling team to watch as the Portuguese steered them to consecutive seventh-place finishes.

It’s time to get behind Nuno, as evidently he’s going to try and bring that ‘Spurs DNA’ back to the club next season.

Somerset were 'professional and clinical' says Shine after another fighting day at Taunton

Somerset safely saw themselves past the follow on total of 459 at the County Ground earlier today before being all out just 54 runs behind the Surrey total

Richard Walsh05-Jul-2002Somerset safely saw themselves past the follow on total of 459 at the County Ground earlier today before being all out just 54 runs behind the Surrey total.Resuming on 304 for 3, the overnight batsmen Mike Burns and Keith Parsons took the score on to 378, before they were parted. Parsons was out for 47, whilst Burns was out LBW to Ricky Clarke just one run short of what would have been a thoroughly deserved century.Mr Reliable, Rob Turner was at the wicket when the follow on total of 459 was passed, and brought up the 500 in the 121st over. Rob was still there unbeaten on 56 when Somerset were all out for 554, just before tea time.By close of play Surrey had reached 96 without loss from 33 overs to put them exactly 150 ahead of their hosts. With just one day remaining the game looks set to end as a draw from which the Cidermen would gain a valuable 11 points. At the end of the day Somerset coach Kevin Shine told me: " It has been a very good fighting day for us. I was very impressed with the way that we batted earlier, Mike Burns hit a fabulous 99, and had good support from Keith Parsons, and then Rob’s unbeaten 56 at the end. Everybody batted well, and it was a great effort to get within fifty of their total. Then we kept it tight at the end to restrict their lead over us."The coach continued: "Scoreboard pressure can be difficult to handle, but the boys have set about it in a professional and clinical way today, and I have been very impressed with them all."I asked the coach what he thought would happen tomorrow. He told me: "Realistically I’ll be surprised if they set us a target to chase tomorrow, after all we only batted for five minutes less than they did and got to within 54 runs of their total. The most likely outcome is a draw from which we would get eleven points.”

Shine pleased after first day at the Rose Bowl

Somerset ended the first day of their championship relegation battle against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl just about in front, after a day in which they were once again indebted to their middle order batsmen

Richard Walsh14-Aug-2002Somerset ended the first day of their championship relegation battle against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl just about in front, after a day in which they were once again indebted to their middle order batsmen. In the Somerset side Piran Holloway replaced Peter Bowler who is unwell, and quick bowler Simon Francis was given the opportunity to play against his former county when he was preferred to Keith Dutch after it was decided that the wicket would favour the quicker bowlers. After winning the toss and slipping to 105 for 5, the Cidermen were rescued by a sixth wicket stand of 99 between Keith Parsons(51) and Rob Turner (57).Later in the innings Turner was involved in another partnership with Richard Johnson, who smashed his way to being the highest scorer for Somerset, making 61 from 37 balls, before they were all out for 278, just before the end of the day.The Hampshire opening pair survived the last five overs and had taken the score onto 15 without loss at the close of play.At the end of the day Somerset coach Kevin Shine told me: “It’s been a good day for us and I have been very pleased with the way that things have gone. After losing five wickets for just over a hundred things didn’t look so good, but Keith Parsons and Rob Turner, and then a great knock from `Johnno’ rescued us.”He continued: “The wicket has done a little bit all day and at the end we bowled well in the last five overs. In the morning we will be looking to get amongst them and take some early wickets.”

Robinson urges Celtic to sell Barkas

Paul Robinson has offered his thoughts on what Celtic should be doing with Vasilis Barkas this summer…

What’s the talk?

Former England international Paul Robinson has called on Celtic to sell goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas following his mistake against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League this week.

Robinson has said that the Greek international wasn’t good enough for the Hoops last season and has urged Ange Postecoglou to cash in on him and sign a replacement.

He told Football Insider:

“Barkas had a really poor season last year.

“A mistake like that last night and the criticism that has followed, it is going to be difficult for him again. He is already on the back foot going into the season. Barkas wasn’t good enough last year and Bain wasn’t good enough last year. They have not replaced Fraser Forster.

“If they have any chance of winning the title next year they need a new goalkeeper. You need a top goalkeeper to play in big games.

Fans would love it

Celtic must now ruthlessly axe Barkas from the club in the coming months. Supporters would love it and it could potentially improve Postecoglou’s team if they could replace him with a better player.

Back in January, Barkas’ statistics for Celtic were incredibly worrying. He posted a save percentage of 65%, the fourth-worst in the Premiership. At that point, Jon McLaughlin and Allan McGregor – both at Rangers – had saved over 80% of the shots they faced in the league, showing the gigantic drop-off in quality between the goalkeepers of the two clubs.

Earlier this year, former Rangers and Aberdeen player Richard Foster hit out at Barkas’ performances and lamented his displays in relation to his £5m price tag. He said:

“He should be coming in as a number one goalkeeper. If you’re getting signed for £5m you should be commanding, you should be dictating to your defence what you want them to do.

“We haven’t seen any of that from Celtic, defensively they’ve been all over the place at times and that comes from having a goalkeeper who clearly doesn’t speak. Or if he does, he doesn’t tell the players the right things.

“They’ve lost so many goals at set plays. All the best goalies I’ve worked with are usually the loudest guys on the pitch.

Therefore, fans would be delighted to see the club move him on in the coming weeks. The comments from the two pundits and his statistics from last season align with the view that he is not good enough for Celtic.

AND in other news, Celtic could repeat their Shane Duffy nightmare by signing “superb” £8m ace…
