Leeds United will look to loan out midfielder Alfie McCalmont at a higher level next season.

That’s according to a report from Football Insider, who have been informed by a Whites source of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for the 21-year-old.

The report claims that Bielsa has made up his mind regarding McCalmont and wants the youngster to join a League One outfit to further his development.

McCalmont, a Northern Ireland international, has spent the current campaign out on loan with League Two side Oldham Athletic.

He’s made 38 appearances and has scored an impressive 10 times, while also chipping in with four assists, per Transfermarkt.

The midfielder’s winner against Exeter City back in March came in for praise from former England striker Michael Owen on social media, and it seems as if McCalmont will depart Elland Road again over the coming months.

To us, this is the correct decision from the Whites in order to get the best out of McCalmont in the long run.

He’s excelled in the fourth-tier, so the logical next step would be to see how he fares at a higher level.

The Whites don’t need to worry about losing McCalmont for nothing either, as his deal in Yorkshire still has over three years left to run.

Who knows, another impressive loan spell away from Elland Road next season could result in McCalmont putting himself in Bielsa’s thoughts for the 2022/23 campaign to challenge the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and co.

What’s the story?

The Baggies saw their relegation from the Premier League confirmed at the weekend after suffering defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.

And now, The Daily Express claim that Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds are interested in signing the Portuguese winger this summer, although they are set to face significant competition from the likes of RB Leipzig and Leicester.

The report adds that with West Brom’s Championship status now confirmed, Pereira’s exit from the Hawthorns is now likely, with the Foxes currently at the head of the queue to sign him.

Bye-bye Costa

Dubbed as a “genius” who “who has a technical ability that I have never seen before” by former Nurnberg coach Nate Weiss, Pereira has emerged as one of West Brom’s standout performers since his arrival at The Hawthorns.

Weiss added: “How am I going to tell a player like that how he is supposed to shoot, how he is supposed to pass or how he is supposed to use his body? The things he is doing are so natural. How do you train that? How would you train Lionel Messi?”

A transfer insider has claimed that Leeds United are one of a number of clubs eyeing a move for Matheus Cunha in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Leeds want a new winger

With a recent report linking the Whites with winger Santiago Moreno, it is evident that Marcelo Bielsa is looking for a new wide man to come through the door at Elland Road.

Although Cunha can play in a number of different roles, he has predominantly played as a left-winger so far in the 2020/21 term.

The Latest: Leeds eyeing Cunha

According to Sky Sport Germany and transfer insider Max Bielefeld, the Yorkshire club are closely following Cunha and have been for months already, as he looks likely to leave Hertha Berlin in the summer.

However, As Monaco, Napoli and Atalanta are also interested in his signature, with Hertha willing to sell for €30m (£25.9m).

The Verdict: Leeds should sign Cunha

It is likely but not guaranteed the Peacocks will be able to sign Jack Harrison from Manchester City on a permanent deal once his current loan spell ends, but there could still be a position up for grabs, with Helder Costa expected to leave the club.

Cunha is more than capable, with no fewer than eight goals and a further eight assists in 28 games in total over all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Hertha head coach Bruno Labbadia has described him as having ‘something special’, and he could be key in unlocking the door of some stubborn defences that LUFC are likely to face in the Premier League next campaign.

Nonetheless, at just 21 years of age, he will only get better, and so Leeds should not think twice about snapping up the Brazilian.

A tristeza pela tragédia com a delegação da Chapecoense ainda abala a todo mundo. Em coletiva nesta sexta-feira, o técnico Zé Ricardo lamentou o acidente que matou 71 pessoas e diz que será algo que ficará marcado para sempre. O treinador relembrou bons momentos vividos na cidade de Chapecó na passagem rubro-negra por lá e a hospitalidade que a delegação recebeu da Chape, adversária pelo Brasileirão.

-Tive uma experiência pequena, mas positiva com relação à Chapecoense. Fomos jogar lá na semana da nossa estreia nessa na Sul-Americana, contra o Figueirense, no Orlando Scarpelli, e de lá fomos direto para Chapecó. Meu primeiro susto foi ao saber que faríamos nossa preparação no CT deles. Nos cederam o espaço de uma maneira muito carinhosa, então a primeira impressão foi extremamente positiva. Conhecendo a cidade e seu povo, o clube se mostrou muito diferente com relação à sua maneira de enxergar o futebol – disse o treinador, lembrando também que teve com Caio Junior, que era o técnico do time.

-No dia da partida especificamente, estávamos no vestiário antes de começar o aquecimento e do vestiário da Chapecoense surgiu o Caio Júnior. Mesmo sem conhecê-lo pessoalmente, fomos um ao encontro do outro e ele me desejou boa sorte, me deu os parabéns por tudo o que vínhamos fazendo. Também o parabenizei por suas recentes conquistas no mundo árabe. Ele foi muito gentil e a recepção foi a melhor possível. Foi um papo curto, mas que percebia muita sinceridade em suas palavras. A partir desse momento ele ganhou mais um fã. Estávamos torcendo muito para a Chapecoense nessa final e, infelizmente, aconteceu tudo isso. Só tenho que parabenizar a Chapecoense por tudo que eles conseguiram e torcer para que eles se reergam o mais rápido possível, tão ou mais fortes do que estavam – completou.

Segundo Zé Ricardo, a tragédia abalou a todos no clube, principalmente os jogadores. Por isso, foi preciso fazer alterações nos trabalhos desta semana. Ele disse que independente do que for resolvido da última rodada do Brasileirão, se será cancela ou não, o Fla estará preparado.

– Na terça-feira, cancelamos o treino assim que soubemos do ocorrido. Na quarta, tivemos um longo papo sobre respeitar o momento de cada um que não se sentisse à vontade para treinar. De maneira muito profissional, eles se colocaram à disposição para trabalhar. Só tenho que reconhecer toda força e caráter do nosso grupo, pois nesses três dias eles foram extremamente profissionais. Na semana que vem, esperaremos para ver o que vai acontecer. Não sei como funciona essa legislação, o que reza os interesses de A, B ou C. O fato é que vamos nos preparar para o caso de termos que jogar. Teremos um adversário de muita qualidade. No entanto, esse é um momento de prestar solidariedade a nossos atletas também, pois tiveram alguns que ficaram muito abalados com tudo que aconteceu.
