Earlier this week we discussed how Steven Gerrard should start Glasgow Rangers ace Ianis Hagi against Standard Liege in the Europa League so that the 21-year-old gains valuable experience in his football career, but there’s a certain player in particular we forgot to mention who should be in contention to start at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne too.

Jermain Defoe was surprisingly omitted from the Europa League squad to make room for Bongani Zungu due to a lack of homegrown players. Whilst some may argue that the 29-cap South Africa international is just making up the numbers, as Gerrard was full of praise for his midfield after the Gers romped to a 2-0 win over their arch-rivals Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season, we think that he could be given his first-team debut on Thursday night.

Glen Kamara put in a tremendous performance at Celtic Park, as he won seven out of nine ground duels whilst neutralising the attacking threat of Celtic wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, so he could be rested for the Europa League clash.

And ex-Ibrox midfielder Neil Murray seems to agree, saying: “The manager has another big decision to make for the Liege game and you could see Kamara missing out if he switches it up.

“You hope that healthy competition, where no players are guaranteed to play in that midfield, keeps everyone on their toes.”

If Kamara does indeed drop out, then this will create space for the South African to slot into place alongside Ryan Kent, who is almost certain to start, as he has made 13 appearances for the Light Blues this season so far.

In any case, competition for places is important, so Zungu should be given the chance to show what he can do. He was denied the chance to feature in the Old Firm derby after being forced to quarantine due to coronavirus restrictions in Scotland.

Once hailed as a “special talent” by Flavio Meireles, the sporting director from Vitoria de Guimaraes, the 28-year-old made 21 appearances in Ligue 1 for Amiens last season, whilst he made one clearance and more than one tackle per game, via WhoScored.

By comparison, Kamara is only averaging 0.7 tackles per game in the Scottish Premiership this season, as per WhoScored.

We don’t envy the tough decision at all, that’s for sure. What better way for Zungu to make a good impression than by making a statement in the European competition? One thing is for sure, it’ll be interesting to see if and when he will make his debut for the Gers. All eyes will be watching.

وكان سواريز قد سجل 69 هدفًا في 100 مباراة خلال فترة ثلاث سنوات قضاها في ليفربول بين 2011 و2014، قبل انتقاله إلى برشلونة.

وواصل: “لقد طلب مني أن أصدقه وأثق به، لقد استمتعت بتلك المحادثة، أعجبتني قناعته، والفلسفة التي أراد تنفيذها في النادي، لذلك تحدثت مع وكيل أعمالي والنادي لأقول إنني لا أريد المغادرة، أنني أردت فرصة أخرى للنجاح في ليفربول”.

واستمر: “لم تكن تلك السنة جيدة كما أردنا، لكن الأفكار كانت واضحة بالفعل، لذلك مر موسم 2012/13، وأردت التوقيع لفريق آرسنال، لأنه كان يلعب في دوري أبطال أوروبا كل موسم قبل ذلك”.

ويصر اللاعب البالغ من العمر 34 عامًا على أن جيرارد لعب دورًا كبيرًا في إقناعه بالبقاء، حيث توقع أن فريقًا في مكانة برشلونة سيأتي إذا استمر في مساره التصاعدي في الأنفيلد.

وأوضح: “أجريت مناقشات أخرى مع المدرب وكذلك مع جيرارد، كان هو الشخص الذي أقنعني، أخبرته أنني أريد الاستمرار في النجاح، وأريد اللعب في دوري الأبطال، لذلك قال لي إذا واصلنا التحسن هذا العام كما كنا، وكنت في المستوى الذي يجب أن أكون عليه، في العام المقبل سأكون قادرًا على اللعب مع بايرن ميونخ وريال مدريد وبرشلونة، أو أي نادي أريده، ستتاح لي فرصة الاختيار، ولكن علي البقاء لمدة عام آخر”.

وأكد: “أتذكر ذلك الحديث مع جيرارد، وأتذكر كل ما قاله لي المدرب، لقد أرسل لي رسائل مثل (ابق لعام آخر، فقط جرب ذلك)، حسنًا، كان هذا هو العام الذي اقتربنا فيه من الفوز بالدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، وهذا بفضل جهود الفريق بشكل واضح، ولكن بشكل خاص للفلسفة والقناعة التي نقلها إلينا بريندان رودجرز كمدرب”.

Olise is ‘massively talented’

Indeed, there is no doubt that Olise is ‘massively talented’, given that he has already broken into the first-team set-up at the Royals at the tender age of 18.

In the 2020/21 term so far in the Championship, the attacking midfield player has won 5.2 of his duels per game, and has also averaged 1.4 successful dribbles and 1.2 key passes per match (Sofascore).

He is clearly an influential player, given also that he has contributed two goals and three assists in those appearances (Sofascore).

Should Everton sign Olise?

Indeed, given the calibre of teams that are reportedly interested in signing Olise, perhaps the Goodison Park faithful should look to move quickly and secure his services ahead of their rivals.

At just 18 years of age, the midfielder will surely only get better, and so the January transfer window may well be the right time for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to swoop in.

The Rafa Benitez to Newcastle rumours just won’t seem to go away, will they?

The Spaniard left St James’ Park back in the summer of 2019, with the club releasing a statement that despite working hard to extend his contract, they couldn’t reach an agreement with him.

And despite it being well over a year since he made his exit, his name still continues to be a major talking point on Tyneside, and his latest interview during the week once again opened up a tonne of speculation over a potential return.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Euro Leagues Show, Benitez said: “When I left Newcastle I was waiting until the last minute for a takeover but obviously it didn’t happen. I have a very clear idea that in the situation it was impossible to stay, even if I was really pleased and really happy there.

“So with all of these things in your head, if I decided to stay when we had no money, imagine with a takeover. At the moment I have a lot of respect because I have a job and I am very grateful to Dalian and Wanda but the Premier League is a target for me.”

As the former Magpies boss says himself, he worked under a set of very strict financial restrictions at St James’ Park, and it really is a case of ‘what if?’ in terms of just what he could have achieved had he been given some extra backing.

Newcastle’s outlay after Steve Bruce’s arrival, both last summer and the one just got by, shows that Mike Ashley may be loosening the purse strings ever so slightly, whilst a takeover is still also on the cards.

Many of the players at the club have already worked with him before, with Matt Ritchie admitting that his work was “unbelievable”, particularly tactically.

سيبايوس كان تعرض لإصابة قوية في مباراة مصر بدور المجموعات في دورة الألعاب الأولمبية الصيفية طوكيو 2020، ولم يشارك على إثرها في باقي مباريات لاروخا حتى المباراة النهائية.

سيبايوس كان انضم إلى ريال مدريد في صيف يوليو 2017، قادمًا من ريال بيتيس، بعد أدائه الجيد مع فريقه وفي كأس أمم أوروبا تحت 21 عامًا، حيث حصل على جائزة أفضل لاعب في البطولة، ليدفع الملكي 16 مليون يورو لضمه.

ويملك سيبايوس عرضًا من قبل نادي اي سي روما الإيطالي، بطلب من مدربه البرتغالي جوزيه مورينيو، المدير الفني للفريق، حيث يريد سبيشال وان ضم إلى الجيالوروسي.

Manchester City secured their place in the Champions League knockout stages with a 0-0 draw against Porto on Tuesday night but Pep Guardiola will still surely be frustrated that his side weren’t able to secure a win in Portugal.

His side’s profligacy in front of goal was perhaps the main reason why the Citizens weren’t able to earn all three points, with Ferran Torres one of the main culprits.

The Spanish winger, who joined from Valencia during the summer, endured a terrible night at Estadio do Dragao, which may convince Guardiola that the youngster shouldn’t be played as a striker again in future matches.

As per SofaScore, Torres earned a 6.5 rating for his display, with only Raheem Sterling rated lower of the Manchester City players who started the game.

During his time on the pitch, which totalled 71 minutes, he had just 15 touches of the ball and could complete just five out of nine passes, suggesting that the game completely passed him by and he was able to have very little impact.

However, he was still able to miss one big chance and lose possession five times during the game meaning that the few times he did have the ball, he was extremely wasteful with it.

It was no surprise therefore that Guardiola substituted Torres with around 20 minutes remaining, and his replacement Gabriel Jesus was able to have a much more telling influence on the game, having just two fewer touches than the Spaniard did, despite being on the pitch for significantly less time.

The Brazilian also saw a late goal disallowed due to a VAR offside call but looked dangerous when he came on, which may be enough to suggest that he should start ahead of Torres up front in future matches.

You can understand why Guardiola opted to start the 20-year-old, after his impressive performance in the reverse fixture, which led to him praising his performance in the 3-1 win, saying:

“It was an incredible combination from Phil [Foden] and Ferran [Torres].

“Ferran has an incredible sense of goal. The most satisfying thing was the way they came in. Always the people who come from the bench are so important.”

The £40.5 million-rated Spanish international will have to put in a much-improved performance next time out if he wants to keep his place in Guardiola’s side, however, with the Citizens set to face struggling Fulham at home on Saturday.

احتفظ محمد الدهراوي بمقعد رئاسة الاتحاد المصري للكاراتيه لولاية ثانية حتى دورة الألعاب الأوليمبية المقبلة التي ستقام في باريس 2024.

فاز الدهراوي في الانتخابات التي جرت بدار المشاة بعد حصوله على 89 صوتا مقابل 77 صوتا لمحمد مصيلحي، و6 أصوات باطلة.

وجاءت العضوية على النحو التالي، سيد نصر (148 صوتا)، وحسام عجور (128 صوتا)، وأحمد أبوعيشة (114 صوتا)، ومحمد سعد (85 صوتا) ومحمد الحسيني (85 صوتا) وأمين الزعبلاوي (78 صوتا).

أما المقعد السابع فلم يتم حسمه حيث إن هناك جولة إعادة بين الثنائي سامح الشبراوي وعصام عبد الرؤوف بعد حصول كل منهما على 71 صوتا.

من جانبه، أعرب الدهراوي عن سعادته للفوز في انتخابات اتحاد الكاراتيه موجها شكره لأعضاء الجمعية العمومية الذين حرصوا على التواجد والإدلاء بأصواتهم في تلك المعركة الانتخابية.
