Tottenham Hotspur’s participation in Amazon’s “All or Nothing” documentary is a tinderbox waiting to explode.

The Daily Mail reports that the agents of Spurs players are pushing for pay increases because their clients will be asked to contribute to interviews and on-camera activities.

And one feels that this has been a disastrous decision from the club’s powerbrokers.

Of course, Spurs came into the season on a high. They reached the Champions League final last term and finished in the top four despite a relatively disappointing run of form in the latter half of the season.

This could have been seen as a season of growth, improvement and rebuilding, particularly if new signings were brought in who could have a tangible impact on the starting XI.

Unfortunately, the opposite has happened. While Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke were signed in the summer, only Fernando Llorente and Kieran Trippier, of last season’s starting XI, were let go. No replacement for the duo was signed.

The season has started in genuinely terrible fashion. Spurs have won just three games in the Premier League, have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Colchester United and have won just one of their opening three European games; one of those games was against Bayern Munich. Spurs lost 7-2.

It is not known if cameras were present in the dressing room there but they were on Sunday, per the Mail, as they lost 2-1 to Liverpool in a game in which they actually took the lead.

And all of this feels like a dangerous distraction.

Spurs have built a new stadium at the cost of almost £1bn and simply cannot afford to miss out on qualification for the Champions League.

At this stage, though, they are 11th in the league, eight points behind both Chelsea and Leicester City, and anything that can sap the focus of the players is unlikely to be welcomed in north London.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to have okayed the project and yet, here we are, with reports claiming that players have expressed their own concerns about the access being granted.

This is a tinderbox for the simple reason that dirty laundry is rarely best aired in public.

Imagine the scenes in May if Spurs limp to a sixth-placed finish, qualify only for the Europa League and the documentary premieres, painting a picture of a disappointed, disenfranchised squad.

It is, of course, speculation. Spurs could well rally. The last few episodes of the documentary could show their progress into the top four and their FA Cup run.

At this point, though, that feels remarkably unlikely; one has to ask questions about the decision to let the cameras in, and whether this could all blow up in the club’s face.

وبسؤاله عن رحيل المدير الفني أروابارينا، أجاب: “لا يوجد أي شئ من هذا القبيل، نحن ندعمه إلى آخر وقت، ولا صحة عن التفكير في إقالته”.

وحول المشادة بين رمضان صبحي وحسام حسن مدرب الاتحاد السكندري بعد المباراة، أوضح: “شاهدت حديث دار بينهما، ولكن لا أعرف أي تفاصيل عن ذلك حتى الآن”.

Allan Saint-Maximin showed exactly what he has to offer Newcastle against West Ham on Saturday, though there is a sense that there is still work for him to do to become an all-round effective star.

It is fair to say that the Newcastle front-three have taken their time to gel this season. They still only have one league goal between them but there is a growing sense that they are starting to come together to produce match-winning moments for their team.

Having said that, all three of the Magpies’ goals on Saturday came as a result of set-pieces, though Saint-Maximin was guilty of missing two brilliant chances in the first half.

The winger has shown this term that his pace, like Miguel Almiron’s, will be an asset for his side this year, and if he can add the finishing touch then he will become a very effective outlet for Steve Bruce’s side.

In that sense it is a shame that he shares another trait with the Paraguay international – an inability to finish chances.

Played through in the first half by Jonjo Shelvey, he had all the time in the world to pick his spot, but Roberto matched his effort, and in a later chance he made the bewildering decision to pass across goal when he only had Felipe Anderson on the goal line to beat.

Despite that, it was an impressive showing from the 23-year-old, and if he produces such a display on a consistent basis then he will repay the £16.5m spent on him.

As per SofaScore, his dribbling is his best asset, and if given time and space on the flank he can be a thorn in the side of most teams.

He showed his ability to turn and run with the ball in a dangerous fashion for the goal against Manchester United a few weeks ago, so once he builds up an understanding with Joelinton and the midfield, he should start to produce in the final third.

Another aspect of his play which is likely to win over both fans and his manager is his tenacity, demonstrated by him winning seven out of the ten ground duels he faced against West Ham.

That is important to Bruce’s defensive style as it allows the Magpies to defend from the front, and if he can win the ball and attack the opposition then that could be a source of great strength for Newcastle.

The Frenchman seems to be getting better game by game and shows the confidence to take the game to the opponent in a direct style, and that means he could become very valuable as the season progresses, particularly if he improves his finishing.

Even though it’s still fairly early in the 2019/20 season, alarm bells might start ringing in the Catalan capital. And even though Ernesto Valverde will have to fix multiple issues in his squad, their attacking woes should be top of their priority list.

The last two games were a really low point in Barcelona’s ongoing campaign.

Things were not exactly sunshine and rainbows before that but the 3-1 defeat to Levante last weekend and the goalless draw in the Champions League against Slavia Prague highlighted some of the major issues they have in their squad.

And somehow, despite the Blaugrana being completely stacked in the attacking front with the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele, they seem to struggle in the attacking phase immensely.

It seems that chance creation and the disconnection of their forward line is what is causing the Catalans most of their issues at the moment.

Firing blanks

Even though Barcelona created more chances than Slavia Prague last Tuesday, tallying 14 shots compared to the opposition’s five, the number of touches in the team was quite alarming, to say the least.

Just the fact that their attackers were totally disconnected from the game with Frenkie de Jong, Arturo Vidal, Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi having only 243 touches between them, while their centre-back pairing of Clement Lenglet and Gerard Pique had 240 is worrying enough.

It signals that the Blaugrana have a real problem with actually involving their forward players in the game in the first place.

But it’s also not the only worrying instance when those problems in their attacking phase were apparent.

Throughout the season, Barcelona often get outgunned and outperformed by the opposition.

In La Liga, this disparity is not as emphasised as much as the Catalans’ tally of 12.1 shots per game as opposed to conceding 9.7, but the Champions League is more alarming with 12.8 shots per game vs 13.3 conceded per game.

Some of the better examples of this were apparent in their defeat to Levante when both teams managed nine shots, in the first game against Slavia Prague when they were outgunned 24 vs 13, the clash against Borussia Dortmund (13 vs seven) and Osasuna (15 vs eight).

Needless to say, for a team that has so many attacking talent, including that little Argentine fella, these are quite disappointing statistics to have under their belt.

If Valverde wants his team to start improving, he will have to somehow solve this huge issue within his squad.

The pressure is mounting on Manuel Pellegrini, as West Ham United’s winless run has been extended to seven games in all competitions.

While the Hammers hierarchy have backed the Chilean, as reported by BBC Sport, there are many sections of the fanbase that want to see him gone.

One fan account, COYIrons, is among them and they want to see Rafael Benitez take over from Pellegrini:

The Hammers seriously considered the former Newcastle United and Liverpool manager in 2018, as reported by The Guardian at the time.

However, plenty of the club’s fans don’t think West Ham should make a move for the Spaniard, with some claiming that his move to China is a sign that he is winding down his career.

Benitez’s Dalian Yifang side, featuring Marek Hamsik, Yannick Carrasco and Salomon Rondon, currently sit ninth in the Chinese Super League table.

Pellegrini himself was at Hebei China Fortune before making the move to London Stadium, which could make up part of their concern.

فشل ماني في مواكبة زميله، حيث سجل المهاجم السنغالي 13 هدفًا فقط هذا الموسم – ثمانية منها فقط في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

The anticipation is already building for West Ham United’s match against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign Troy Parrott, according to The Express.

What’s the latest?

The striker has shown his potential this season for the Spurs U23s and his talent isn’t going unnoticed by some of the biggest clubs in Europe, but Borussia Dortmund seem willing to challenge them.

Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid are amongst the other clubs interested in the 17-year-old, who only signed a new deal in February of this year.

However, that deal will expire in June 2021 and that means Parrott could be tempted away for a low sum, possibly viewing Dortmund as a good stepping stone – as it was for Jadon Sancho who joined the German club at the same age.

Chance under Mourinho

Parrott is yet to make his Premier League debut for Spurs but his progression in the youth teams mean it is probably only a matter of time before he gets an opportunity, particularly as his new boss is reportedly willing to offer young players a chance.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international has scored seven goals in five games for Spurs U23s this term, and his skill meant former manager Mauricio Pochettino was a “great admirer” of the youngster.

Considering the interest from some big clubs it is important the club begins to make plans to keep him, and therefore a new contract offer should be tabled, as well as assurances of playing time, as that may be the most important thing for Parrott at this time.

Pochettino leaving places greater doubt on that, too. The Argentine was responsible for handing several young Spurs players a first-team opportunity, such as Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Oliver Skipp.

Mourinho’s career shows he hasn’t often been a manager to hand game time to young players, though his admission that he is ready to learn from past mistakes could see a change in approach. With no other natural striker in the squad to act as back-up to Harry Kane there is a spot available in the squad, too.
